Manage Databases

The database tools on this screen allow you to back up, restore, and empty your store's databases. It is a good idea to maintain current backups of your store's databases, both on the ShopSite server and on your local computer.

If you clicked Check Status on the previous screen, this screen shows you the status of the current and backup databases. If there is no information in the Backup column for a database, you have never backed up that database and should do so. You should back up your store’s products and pages databases regularly, or after making changes to your store.

Check the box next to each database for which you would like to make a backup copy on the ShopSite server, then click Backup. Click Proceed on the next screen to confirm the backup operation.
Use the restore function to replace your store's current databases with the backup copies. Check the box next to the database that you would like to restore, then click Restore. If you're sure you want to replace your store's current databases and lose all changes you've made since the last backup, click Proceed on the next screen to confirm the restore operation.
Note:

If you restore your store's products or pages database, you must click the Publish tab to rebuild your store using the restored databases. Your customers will not see the changes until you Publish the restored store.

The Compact button allows you to compress your databases to take up less disk space. Select the databases you want to compact, then click Compact.
Note:

Compacting a database may prevent shoppers from ordering while the compaction process is running. You should only compact during off hours.

The Empty button allows you to completely erase the contents of a database and return it to the way it was when your store was first created. After emptying a database, you can restore the database from a backup copy, upload a new database, or enter new information by hand.

To empty a database, check the box next to the database, then click Empty. Click Proceed on the next screen to confirm the operation.

Warning:

When you empty a database, all records in that database are deleted. All of your pages or products, or all information about your orders, associates, or reports will be deleted when you empty a database.
