Search Options
In ShopSite Pro searches are conducted on product names, product descriptions, and text found in any "More Info" pages.
On this page you can choose the settings for product searches conducted in your store. You can also determine the way your search results will look. You can specify the number of search results displayed per page, as well as the colors for text and background. See below for detailed information:
Stop List - This is a list of common words that will not be indexed for product searches. Indexing common words such as 'the' or 'and' usually add no value to the search query. By not indexing certain words the reindexing process can be faster, the index file can be smaller, and the actual search by the user may be faster.
Add words to the list by entering them one by one into the field provided and clicking the "Add Keyword" button. To remove a word from the list, highlight the word by clicking on it, and then click on the "Remove Keyword" button.
Index Numbers - Checking this box will allow numbers to be indexed for searches in your store. For example, if you have a product with a description including the phrase "24 carat gold", and you want your customers to be able search for "24", you will need to check this box. If this box is not checked, then searches with a "24" in them (such as "24 carat" or "24 carat gold") will fail because the "24" will not be found in the list of indexed search words.
Text Color - This sets the default display of non-link text on the search results page to the color you choose. Be sure to choose a dark color (black is usually best) unless your background is dark, because you want to make sure your site is easy to read. A sample of each color choice can be found here.
Background Color - The entire background of your search results page will be displayed in the color you choose here, unless you select a background pattern (see below), in which case the pattern will appear instead of the color. Be sure to choose a light color for the background unless you have selected a very light color for your text. A sample of each color choice can be found here.
Link Color - Unvisited links on your search result page will appear in the color you select here. A sample of each color choice can be found here.
Visited Link Color - After the link has been clicked on, and the page has been visited, the color of the link on your search result page will change to the color you select here, to let people keep track of where they've been. A sample of each color choice can be found here.
Active Link Color - The color selected here will only be visible at the exact moment they are clicking on a link on the search results page. It's fun to use a bright color here. It adds pizzazz. A sample of each color choice can be found here.
Background Image - If you have uploaded an image of a textured background to your media directory, you can use that image as a background for your search results page. Be careful, the image will tile, meaning that it will appear repeating over and over like tiles, so if you use an image that is not a consistent pattern, it could be very ugly. You should usually only use images that were designed specifically for backgrounds. Use the radio button to select the method for finding your image.
Search Field - Here you can specify where the product search field will appear on a page. This setting affects every page with a product search field.
Results per Page - The number of search results that show per page will be determined by the number you enter here. For example, if a search returns 100 results, and the results per page is set to 10, the customer will have access to all 100 results, but will only be able to view 10 at a time on each page.
Display Universal Header and Footer - This will place your store's universal header and universal footer on the search results page.
Do you want to strip HTML tags from the product description - Product descriptions accompany every product listed on a product search results page. This setting allows you to remove all HTML tags from those descriptions. This means, for example, that a word that is italicized in a product description will appear as normal text in the search result page. Checking this box will result in a more uniform looking search result.
Products saved between two checkpoints - During an Update or Regenerate, ShopSite indexes products for searches. As it indexes products, ShopSite stops at predetermined checkpoints and records its progress so that it can pick up where it left off if a "time-out" occurs. This setting tells ShopSite how many products should be indexed between each checkpoint.
Pages saved between two checkpoints - During an Update or Regenerate, ShopSite indexes pages for searches. As it indexes pages, ShopSite stops at predetermined checkpoints and record its progress so that it can pick up where it left off if a "time-out" occurs. This setting tells ShopSite how many pages should be indexed between each checkpoint.
