ShopSite Tax FAQs

Here is a list of questions about charging tax in your ShopSite store.

How do I configure domestic tax in ShopSite?

From the ShopSite back office, click Commerce Setup > Sales Tax. You can read the sales tax help for more information on configuring the different tax methods available.

How can I configure for both domestic and foreign tax?

You can use the "shopper selected tax" method and define tax zones and rates for both domestic and foreign tax. Customers must pick the correct tax for their location in the shopping cart.

How do I (not) charge tax on shipping costs?

Go to the Commerce Setup > Sales Tax screen. Near the top of the screen is a place for you to select whether tax should be computed on just products or products plus shipping costs.

How do I not charge tax on some items, but still charge tax on others?

Use the Commerce Setup > Sales Tax screen to configure regular tax rates for your store. When you add products, you can uncheck the Taxable field to not charge tax on that product. You can change that box for existing products in the Edit Product Info screen.

How do I not charge tax to tax-exempt customers?

ShopSite does not have a built-in function for tax-exempt customers. You could use the "shopper selected tax" method to create a 0% tax option for tax-exempt customers, but you would still need to collect their tax ID number.

How do I enable VAT?

ShopSite does not support VAT at this time.
