ShopSite Customer Product Search FAQs

Here is a list of questions and answers about the product search feature for customers.

What is the customer search feature and how do I enable it?

The customer product search feature allows customers to search for products in your store. You enable it by checking the Product Search Field box for each page on which you want a search box to appear. You must also check the Index box for each page that you want to make searchable (that is, the products on that page can be found by a search).

What product information can customers search for?

ShopSite will build a search index from the product names, descriptions, SKUs, Ordering Options drop-down lists, and More Info Page Text. You can enable or disable searching on any of these fields on the Preferences > Search Settings screen.

Can I exclude some products from customer searches?

Yes. To prevent a product from being found by a customer search, set the Search Destination field to None. You can also prevent all products on a specific page from being searched by unchecking the page’s Index field.

Can I point the search results to product more information pages?

Yes, if a product has a More Info page, you can have the search results pages link to the More Info page. Set the Search Destination field for that product to MoreInfo.

Can customers use AND and OR in searches?

Yes, customers can use AND and OR in searches. By default, ShopSite assumes an AND for multiple words.

How do I format the search results page?

You can set the search page colors and some other formatting on the Preferences > Search Settings screen.
