Screen: ShopSite > Commerce Setup > Payment

Payment Setup

The Payment Setup screen allows you to configure how customers pay you, and how you will collect that money. ShopSite includes support for numerous payment systems such as PayPal, as well as the ability to process payments through several traditional payment gateways. For help deciding what payment processor or service to use, see Accepting Payments with ShopSite. ShopSite Express limits which methods are available. To see which other methods are supported by ShopSite, please explore the Commerce tab of our feature comparison page.

Before setting up payment methods, verify that the "Your country" drop-down box in the top right is accurate. The country selected will impact which payment methods are available for your use. If the country is incorrect, select the appropriate country from the drop-down list and click the "Update" link.

Payment Methods Accepted

Use this section to configure what sources of funds you are willing to accept payments from. In order to accept payments using any method, you must have a merchant account or account with the individual service which allows you to process the payments. You may want to configure a real-time payment gateway before deciding what payment methods you will accept.

PayPal Commerce, Express, or Standard Check this box to set up PayPal payments with a PayPal button. PayPal Commerce is the newest PayPal service and allows you to configure just the PayPal button or the PayPal Button and a separate Credit Card checkout button. PayPal Commerce will also let you accept PayPal Credit.
Note:

Some merchants have had trouble with the initial Connect process when using the Firefox browser. If you experience problems, try a Chrome browser and wait several seconds between steps when Connecting or re-Connecting during the initial setup. Once setup, Firefox will work for both shoppers and merchants.

PayPal Express will display a PayPal checkout button that lets shoppers pay using their PayPal account or optionally using a Credit Card from the PayPal sign-on screen.

PayPal Standard is the original PayPal payment method and instead of a button it is selected from a pull-down. From a convenience, features and reliability point of view it is recommended that merchants use the newer Commerce or Express options. Note: PayPal Standard is not available on newer installations.

Amazon Payments Check this box then click Configure to accept payments using Checkout by Amazon. When you select this option, customers will be presented with a pre-checkout cart screen which allows them to select whether to pay using Checkout by Amazon or the regular ShopSite checkout. Customers who select to pay using Checkout by Amazon will be taken to Amazon, where they can enter their account information. The funds will be deposited into your Amazon merchant account.

Credit Cards

In order to process credit card payments on your Website, you must have a compatible Merchant Account.

Processor Select the desired payment processing option you want to use from the drop-down list, then click Configure to configure ShopSite to use the selected real-time payment gateway. You can only use one payment processor at a time.
Authorize.Net SIM Select this option from the drop-down menu then click Configure to accept payments using the Authorize.Net SIM payment service. Customers who select to pay using a credit card will be taken to the Authorize.Net website where they can enter their payment information.
Braintree v.zero Select this option from the drop-down menu then click Configure to accept payments using Braintree v.zero.
PayPal Commerce Platform Select this option from the drop-down menu, then click Configure to process payments in real-time using PayPal Commerce Platform.
PayPal Payments Advanced Select this option from the drop-down menu then click Configure to process payments in real-time using PayPal Payments Advanced.

Fraud Prevention

ShopSite has several features to help with fraud prevention. If you are having trouble with bots (automatic scripts) testing stolen credit card numbers on your site, you can use the CAPTCHA feature to verify that the form is being completed by a real, human customer.

Display CAPTCHA Select the radio button for the option you want:
  • Off - never display a human validation image.
  • Always On - always display a human validation image.
  • On, but only after the number of failed attempts has been reached - Specify a Failed Attempts Limit. If a customer submits bad payment information the specified number of times, ShopSite will display a human validation image for any further attempts to submit payment information by that customer.
CAPTCHA type Select the radio button for the option you want:
  • TYPE-IN (by Solvemedia) - TYPE-IN uses an unlevel phrase (often a catchphrase or tagline for a popular product). It also has controls to get new challenges. Here's an example:
    typein
  • reCAPTCHA v2 (by Google) - reCAPTCHA v2 uses a simple check box. The user clicks the box labeled "I'm not a robot" and the CAPTCHA determines whether or not it needs to display some text for input. This method requires the merchant to register their domain with Google. Here's an example:
    reCAPTCHAv2
  • reCAPTCHA v3 (by Google) - reCAPTCHA v3 uses an advanced risk analysis engine to determine if it thinks you are a bot. Otherwise, nothing is displayed to the user -- there is no need for a "prove you are a human" check box or a requirement to select "the photos from the images." If you have v3 enabled a small reCAPTCHA image will display in the lower right corner:
    reCAPTCHAv3

You can click the Test button for any of the CAPTCHA options to get a preview of that CAPTCHA.

Deprecated: The following CAPTCHAs are deprecated and not recommended. They will only be displayed if you have previously set them up. Once you select another option they will be removed:

  • Basic - Basic CAPTCHA uses a simple crosshatch over the passphrase.
  • reCAPTCHA (by Google) - reCAPTCHA uses a combination of unlevel text and an image of additional.
NoFraud NoFraud is a 3rd-party service that combines AI models with human oversight to generate accurate pass-or-fail decisions on a credit card. ShopSite supports NoFraud when using Authorize.Net, PayPal Commerce, and Manual Processing (pre-auth check).
