Statistics Referrer Summary A referrer is the URL that a user was browsing before they came to a page in your store. Knowing this URL is useful in that it allows you to see which of the sites linking to your page are sending you visitors. You can tell which search engines send you the most visitors or even the pages within your store that users are following the links from.
Sometimes the referrer page displayed is easy to understand. For example, if the referrer was
http://www.your-domain.com/
it would indicate that the user was on your main page when they followed a link to another page within your store. Referrers from search engines look very different. Often the CGI code for the users query is included in the referrer's URL. For example,
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=catalog+and+medical
indicates the user came from the Yahoo! search site where they were searching for the words catalog and medical. Obviously, knowing the keywords that users search on can help you increase your chances of being found. Be sure to use the Meta Keywords on the Edit Page Contents page to let some search engines find you more easily.
