ShopSite® v10 Feature List

ShopSite® Shopping Cart Software version 10 has many features to help you, the merchant, get your store online, taking orders quickly and with ease. This list includes some of the most popular features, and lets you know how to find and use them.

Feature availability is based on the store service level:

Pro Features are available only in ShopSite Pro stores.
Manager Features are available in Manager and Pro stores.
Starter Features are available in Starter, Manager, and Pro stores.

Different features have been introduced or improved in newer versions of ShopSite. The detail section for each feature identifies the version when the feature was first introduced, as well as the version of the most recent improvement to the feature.

How do I know which version or service level of ShopSite I have?

Log in to your ShopSite back office and look at the main entrance screen. The ShopSite service level and version, along with your StoreID, is displayed below the category buttons, between the large ShopSite logo images. Here's an example of what to look for:

This example indicates the store is running ShopSite version 10, at the Pro service level.

If your store does not include a feature you need, it is easy to upgrade to a higher service level, or even a newer version of ShopSite, without having to re-install or modify your existing store. Contact your hosting provider for information on upgrading your store.

Hover your mouse over the name of a feature for a summary of the feature. Click the feature name or the + image to see details about the feature. Marketing/Advertising

Marketing and Advertising helps you draw potential customers to your ShopSite store. You can easily take advantage of any of the following built-in marketing or advertising tools:

Associates/Affiliates
Affiliates earn commissions for customer referrals

ShopSite Pro's Associates feature allows you to track orders placed by customers referred to your site by affiliates. You can encourage affiliates to link to your site and even list your products on their site in exchange for a commission on all referred sales. When a customer comes to your site through an affiliate link, ShopSite links the customer's shopping cart to the affiliate ID. If the customer makes a purchase, ShopSite will identify the affiliate in the order, and can optionally send an e-mail notification to the affiliate. The Associates feature also allows you to see the order totals and commissions owed to the affiliate.

Cross-sell
Cross-sell related products

ShopSite Pro allows you to assign global or product-specific Cross-sell products to display on the Shopping Cart screen. If you sell products that are popular together, such as headphones, a charger, and a carrying case for a portable MP3 player, you can assign the products as cross-sell products. When a customer adds the main product (the MP3 player) to the cart, the cross-sell products will be displayed in a "related products" section. You can also create global cross-sell products, such as your best sellers or sale items, which can be displayed in the cart. Global cross-sell products can be displayed only if the product added to the cart has no cross-sell products, or in addition to any product-specific cross-sell products.

Google Sitemaps
Google Sitemaps provide site information to search engines

ShopSite Manager and Pro can be configured to automatically create a Google Sitemap of the Store Pages and More Information Pages in your store. Sitemaps can be registered with Google to tell the search engine which pages you want indexed and the importance of each page on the site. If you have pages on your site not generated by ShopSite, you can create a Google Sitemap for those pages, and have ShopSite include that information in the registered sitemap generated by ShopSite.

ShopSite Manager and Pro include severalSearch Engine Optimization (SEO) fields on Store Pages and More Info Pages. You can control the content of page information such as:

ShopSite Pro allows you to create a variety of Coupons for use in your marketing campaigns. You can send coupon links or codes to potential customers, and ShopSite will automatically process the coupons in the Shopping Cart. Each coupon you create can be used for a specific incentive program, from short-term discounts on individual products to a persistent loyalty program for Registered Customers. Here are a few examples of coupons you could create:

  • Save $4 when you buy a Logitech G3 Laser Gaming Mouse before November 25th
  • Registered customers get Free Shipping on all orders
  • One week only: Get 25% Off everything in the store

Customer Registration allows customers to store payment and shipping information

ShopSite Pro includes a Customer Registration feature to make ordering quick and easy for your regular customers. Registered customers can save their shipping and billing information, view previous orders, and even participate in loyalty programs with Coupons or Customer Rewards.

ShopSite v10 introduced the ability for merchants to upload registered customer information.

Offer discount prices for bulk purchases

ShopSite Pro allows you to offer Discounts on bulk purchases. You can offer discounts based on the total spent on an order, or based on the quantity of qualifying items purchased. Here are a few examples of discounts you could offer:

  • Save $20 on orders totalling $200 or more
  • Save $1 on each DVD-R if you buy 10 or more, or save $1.50 each if you buy 20 or more.
  • Save 10% each on purchases of 5 or more DVDs

Gift Certificates
Gift certificates draw new customers to your store

ShopSite Pro includes a Gift Certificates feature which allows shoppers to purchase gift certificates which can be redeemed through your online store. You have the option to issue electronic certificates (via e-mail) or printed gift certificates that can be delivered to the recipient. In the back office, you can view the balance and usage history of the certificate.

In version 8.0, the ability for a merchant to create a gift certificate was introduced, along with the ability for a merchant to edit the balance on a gift certificate.

If you are bonded by buySAFE, you can display the buySAFE seal on your site and allow your customers to purchase a bond on orders, ensuring their peace of mind. Merchant Key Encryption
Merchant Key Encryption protects customer payment information

ShopSite Starter, Manager, and Pro stores can be configured to protect customer payment information using Merchant Key Encryption. Merchant Key encryption, also known as Public/Private Key Encryption, is a high-grade data security method that makes it virtually impossible to decode the payment information unless you have the merchant key. Because the key isn't stored on the server, customer payment information isn't compromised even if a hacker gains access to your store.

ShopSite v10 includes the most up-to-date version of the data encryption routines. These updates includ security and reliability enhancements, but do not affect the merchant interface.

Store sensitive order information in a remote database

ShopSite Starter, Manager, and Pro have the ability to store sensitive customer information in a Remote Orders Database. If you collect sensitive payment information, such as credit card numbers, PCI Security guidelines require you to store the information in a remote server in an internal network zone. ShopSite stores can easily be configured to comply with this requirement by storing this information in a remote PostgreSQL database.

Security Image
Display a Security Image to promote customer confidence

ShopSite Starter, Manager, and Pro stores give you the option to display a Security Image on store pages and in the shopping cart. Your store dynamically creates a security image when your store meets specific requirements for protecting payment information from your customers. You can have ShopSite display this image to tell your customers that their payment information is safe and secure. In order to display the security image, your store must be configured in one of the following ways:

  • Payment information is collected by an external processor (such as PayPal or Google Checkout)
  • Payment information is collected securely in your cart then processed by a real-time payment gateway. Payment information is not stored on your server.
  • Payment information is collected securely in your cart and stored securely in a remote database.

View a history of searches by your customers

ShopSite Manager and Pro stores allow you to view Customer Search Logs, so you know the frequency and success rate of keyword searches performed by visitors to your site. The logs track each keyword used in a customer search, how often the word was searched for, and how many results it returned. You can use the information from these logs to help ensure your customers are finding the products they're looking for. You can configure your store not to log searches from specific IP addresses, such as your own.

Google Analytics
Track visitors with Google Analytics

ShopSite Manager and Pro stores can automatically add Google Analytics tracking code to store pages and shopping cart screens. You can use Google Analytics to track visitor activity on your site, including entry points, exit points, and conversions. ShopSite uses the Shopping Cart JavaScript variables to include order information in your reports.

ShopSite v10 was the first version to include Google Analytics in Manager stores. The option to use the new analytics script (instead of the old Urchin script) was also added in v10.

Power Edit lets you pick which fields to edit

ShopSite Manager and Pro stores include the Power Edit feature, which allows you to select which page or product fields you want to edit. You can select one or more products to Power Edit, then select only the fields you want to see when you edit the selected products. This makes tasks such as changing prices or putting items on sale quick and easy.

ShopSite Pro stores include an additional option for Global Power Edit, which allows you to select a field that you want to set the same for all the selected products. This makes it even easier to do tasks such as putting items on sale.

Provide Real-time Shipping Quotes in the cart

ShopSite Manager and Pro stores allow you to provide Real-time Shipping Quotes from UPS, FedEx, and the U.S. Postal Service on the Shopping Cart screen. After you sign up with a shipping service, you can select which shipping methods (e.g. ground, next day, etc.) you want to offer and assign product weights and package types to use for your products. Your customers can then enter the shipping ZIP code and see shipping costs for each of the available shipping methods.

ShopSite v10 introduced the option to display rates from multiple carriers in your cart. U.S. Postal Service support was added in ShopSite 9.0. FedEx support was added in 8.1.

Automatic Tax Calculation
Automatically calculate Sales Tax or VAT

ShopSite Starter, Manager, and Pro stores include Automatic Tax Calculation capability. You can configure your store to automatically calculate Sales Tax or Value Added Tax (VAT/GST) using the shipping destination postal code. To calculate postal code-based sales tax, you simply assign tax rates based off postal code groups, and ShopSite will calculate the tax on the products in the cart when the customer enters their postal code.

Automatic VAT/GST calculation was introduced in ShopSite v10. If you are a European merchant, you can select your country, and ShopSite will automatically configure your VAT rates. You can select to have ShopSite include VAT in the product price on store pages, and select which tax rate to apply to each product. When a customer enters their postal code in the cart, ShopSite will check if the code matches an exemption zone, then calculate the VAT for the products in the cart.

Automatically Resize Images
Automatically resize or create thumbnails of images

ShopSite Starter, Manager, and Pro stores can Automatically Resize Images you use in your store. You can configure ShopSite to automatically shrink large images when you upload them to your store, or you can select an image and have ShopSite shrink the image to the size you want.

ShopSite Manager and Pro stores can also be configured to automatically create up to three smaller thumbnails of your original image. You can then select an image size to use for product images on Store Pages, More Info Pages, Search Results, and Shopping Cart screens.

Visually add HTML to your text with the HTML Editor

ShopSite Starter, Manager, and Pro stores include an HTML Editor to let you visually add HTML elements to your text. When you use the HTML Editor you can see the changes you're making, and you don't have to know HTML. You can launch the HTML Editor inside numerous text fields (such as a Product Description or the Page Header) throughout your store and add formatting (such as bold or italicized text) and layout (such as lists or tables) to your text with the click of a button.

Digital Download Products
Sell digital downloads such as software or PDFs

ShopSite Pro stores make it easy to sell Digital Download Products from your store with an integrated file and download management system. When you Add a Product to your store, you can designate it a download product and link it with a file you uploaded using the Digital Download File Manager. When a customer purchases the product, ShopSite creates a limited use link to allow the customer to download the file. Your digital download files can only be accessed using the link provided, which automatically expires after a specified time limit or number of downloads.

ShopSite 7.1 introduced an improved Digital Download file management interface.

Automatically track and update inventory

ShopSite Pro's automated Inventory Tracking system updates inventory quantities when a customer makes a purchase. You can configure your store to notify you when inventory levels go below a specified threshold, and prevent customers from placing orders for out-of-stock items.

ShopSite v10 introduced an API which allows third-party applications to track and update product inventory levels.

Upload or Download database tables

ShopSite Manager and Pro stores allow you to Upload and Download Database Tables. You can download database tables into XML or tab-delimited text files for use in a spreadsheet or business management application (such as QuickBooks). You can also make updates or changes to your Pages, Products, or Customer Registration information and upload them into ShopSite from an XML or tab-delimited text file.

ShopSite also has an interface to allow third-party applications to automatically download orders and upload or download page and product records in XML format.

Uploading registered customer information was added in ShopSite v10. Automated order download support was added to Manager stores in version 8.0. XML upload/download of pages and products and automated upload/download was added in 7.1. XML download of orders was added in 6.3.

Create product More Information Pages

ShopSite Manager and Pro stores can automatically create More Information Pages for products in your store. A More Information page can be used to provide more information about a product than you want to include on store pages where several products in a category are displayed. When you add or edit a product, you can have ShopSite automatically create a More Information Page for an individual product, including a separate product image and description than what is used on Store Pages.

ShopSite version 8.1 introduced SEO information fields for More Information Page.

Include Doba drop-shipping products in your store

ShopSite Starter, Manager, and Pro stores have integration with Doba drop-shipping service. Doba has over 1,000,000 products you can select from, and ShopSite will automatically import the product information into your store. When a customer purchases a Doba product, ShopSite forwards the order to Doba, and when the order is finalized, Doba ships the product directly to your customer.

Order Options
Order Options let customers select variations

ShopSite Starter, Manager, and Pro stores allow you to include Order Options for your products. You can include pull-down menus for your customers to select from options such as color or size when they order a product. Manager and Pro stores also allow you to modify the product price based off the option selected. You can also include a text box for customers to enter specific options, such as text for a monogram.

ShopSite version 8.2 introduced improved ability for you to customize the look of order options, including resizing the text box and including a header for the pull-downs and text box.

ShopSite Manager and Pro stores allow you to create and upload Custom Templates to control the look and feel of your entire store. ShopSite's Custom Templates combine HTML and Custom Template Tags to allow you to customize any page, screen, or e-mail message your customers can see. Add JavaScript to Shopping Cart screens

ShopSite Manager and Pro stores include some order information in Shopping Cart JavaScript variables. ShopSite Pro stores also include fields to add your own JavaScript functions to the built-in shopping cart screen validation scripts. You can create JavaScript functions to pass information about order totals and products purchased to third-party applications. For example, ShopSite's integration with Google Analytics uses the JavaScript variables to pass information about the order to Google Analytics.

Adding custom functions to validation JavaScript was introduced in version 7.1. Some JavaScript variables are included in Manager stores starting with version 8.1.
