CyberCash

Secure, real-time credit card handling with CyberCash is made easy with ShopSite Manager and Pro.

Overview

Support for CyberCash, via their CashRegister 3 Service, provides a secure, automated environment for online merchants to accept credit card payments and their customers to make quick and easy purchase decisions. With custom ShopSite CGIs, CyberCash is already installed, and no downloading of any additional software is necessary.

With a few steps, you can get started TODAY!

Click here to register for CyberCash, and use the information below to add CyberCash payment functionality to your ShopSite storefront.

Setup

From the ShopSite back office Config page select Payment Types. Then select CyberCash from the pull-down menu in the Configure Process Options section. Click the Configure Process Options button, which brings you to a screen similar to the one below.

Fill in the values assigned to you by CyberCash, then click the OK button.

Shopping Cart

By default, ShopSite credit card processing is done off line (by the merchant). When an order is placed, ShopSite does do some credit card validation to ensure that the number given is a possible credit card number (i.e., it passes certain internal consistency checks) and reprompts the customer if the information is missing or inconsistent.

If ShopSite is using CyberCash when an order is placed, the credit card information is sent to the CyberCash server, the server checks to see if the card is authorized to charge the amount indicated, and sends back information -- no actual charges are executed. If the card is authorized, ShopSite stores the transaction information (which varies with the payment processor type -- FirstUSA, First Data, VisaNet, etc.) in the orders data base under Ordering Instructions. The information is returned in two lines and is stored with the herald CyberCash Order ID:

If there is an error in the transaction, ShopSite displays an error screen to the customer and invites the customer to correct the errors (if possible) or to notify the merchant.

Back Office

Viewing

Viewing orders is unchanged except that CyberCash data is stored in the Ordering Instructions field of the orders database and is visible when viewing orders.

Billing

ShopSite has a new button, Bill Order. Selecting one or more credit card orders and clicking this button causes a payment request for those orders to be sent to the CyberCash server.

If the request succeeds, the information returned by the server is appended to the earlier information in the Ordering Instructions field. This time the herald will be followed by the word *BILLED*.

If an error occurs, it will be displayed after all selected orders to be billed have been processed. The exact information returned on an error depends in part on the error and in part on the payment processor type (FirstUSA, First Data, VisaNet, etc.).

Testing

Some testing is possible without having an account set up with CyberCash.

  • From the configuration screen, click the Default button. This will set a merchant ID and password that allows testing the software and the connection with the CyberCash server.
  • Go to your store and purchase a product using a credit card.
  • After you see the screen receipt from ShopSite, go to the back office, Orders, select the order you just made, and click Show Order.
  • You should see the line:
    CyberCash Order ID:342183747466272172
    under Ordering Instructions.
  • Click OK to return to the Orders menu.
  • Note the test account does not allow you to use the Bill feature.
