TaxJar

TaxJar can automate your sales tax calculations, reporting, and filings. This feature requires a current TaxJar account. To access your TaxJar account or to create a new account, please visit the TaxJar website.

Note:

ShopSite pushes orders to TaxJar as they are completed. In the TaxJar Console ShopSite does not need to be a Linked Account. In fact, if you also take PayPal via ShopSite you should not link the PayPal account or you may see duplicate orders in TaxJar."

TaxJar Setup

TaxJar API Token

When you sign up for an account you will be supplied with this Token. Use the "Test Connection" button to ensure you have the correct TaxJar API Token

Log completed orders with TaxJar

Set the check box if you wish to have all your orders recorded in TaxJar. You will want to enable this if you use TaxJar Reports and/or TaxJar AutoFile. You can log Order Totals or Order Totals and Products by selecting the appropriate radio button.
Note: order logging is currently only available in the U.S.

TaxJar Timeout

This will determine how long ShopSite will wait for a response from TaxJar before timing out the connection. This connection is established every time a product is added to the customer's shopping cart or the recalculate button is pressed.

Nexus: States/Provinces

ShopSite can be set to only use TaxJar to determine taxes from specific states or provinces.

States/Provinces to Collect Tax For

If this field is set to "All States/Provinces", ShopSite defaults to send all transactions to TaxJar to determine appropriate taxes. If you only want to use TaxJar to determine taxes for particular states or provinces, select "Only these States/Provinces Included" and use the menu to add the desired states or provinces to be taxed.

Tax Codes

Tax Codes

After you set up your TaxJar account and used the "Test Connection" button to ensure you have the correct TaxJar API Token, click the "Update Tax Codes" button and ShopSite will retrieve the codes and display them here. These codes can then be assigned to your products using the Add Product/Edit Product interface.

Default

The default tax code, specified here, is used when no tax code is provided for a given product.

Non-Taxable

Set the check box if you have non-taxable products. A default tax code, specified in the text box, will be used when no tax code is provided for a non-taxable product.

Shopper Messages

Tax Recalculated

This message will appear when address information is provided by the customer during checkout. It is displayed in order to inform customers of possible changes to the listed tax. The default message is "Tax was recalculated due to better address information".
