Store Authorization File

Before installing the ShopSite software, you must have a "store.auth" file for at least one store that will be hosted on the server. (Each store must have its own store.auth file, but you only need one to install ShopSite.) Instructions on where to download this file will be e-mailed to you when you purchase the software. The store.auth file contains encrypted information about which kind of software you have purchased and where it will be installed. The store.auth file is a software key, which allows the ShopSite software to run. ShopSite will not work without a store.auth file. Store.auth files must be generated for each store, and the URL of the store is encoded in the file to make sure that the same key can't be used for two sites.

If you move your Web site to a new server, you will need a new store.auth file. To obtain a new auth file contact the hosting provider at the new site. You will need to supply your current Store ID (Login Name), Store URL, Serial Number, and Product Type (e.g. ShopSite Pro, Manager, Starter). Most of this information can be viewed in ShopSite from the Preferences > Hosting Service screen.

Except for Windows NT/2000, you must put the store.auth file into the same directory as the ShopSite installation program before starting the install. Once install is finished, the installation program will rename the store.auth file and place it in the store's data directory. Symbolic links (aliases) to the auth file will be placed in the shopping cart and shopsite directories. The store.auth will be renamed to your store ID name followed by the ".auth" extension. For example, if your store ID is "mystore" then your store.auth file will be renamed to "mystore.auth" and placed in your data directory.
