Select Cross-Sell

The cross-sell feature gives you another method of arranging the presentation of your products, besides just listing and describing individual products. In the cross-sell model, you "attach" one or more products to a "parent" or "host" product, and the cross-sell products appear in a compact format wherever the parent product is displayed.

You can use this feature in two ways:

  1. Display related items to encourage customers to buy them together. For example, you could list various special papers for sale underneath an inkjet printer to encourage customers who buy the printer to also buy paper. To implement this model:
  2.

    1. Create product entries for the inkjet printer and all of the various papers. You don't need to create descriptions for the papers, as only the description of the parent product is displayed. (You may want to use descriptive names for the papers.)
    2.

    3. On the List of Products screen, select the printer, then click on the Select Cross-Sell button.
    4.

    5. On the resulting Select Cross-Sell screen, either search for all of the papers and the printer, or click the List All Product Button.
    6.

    7. From the search results list, select all of the paper products and the printer to "attach" them as cross-sell products to the printer. If you don't attach the printer as a cross-sell item to itself, the printer's price and Order button will not be displayed.
    8.

    9. Click the Arrange Cross-Sell button to set the order for listing the cross-sell products. You probably want to list the printer first.
    10.

  3. Display categories of products or different models of the same product, or even different colors or sizes of a product. For example, you could sell "500 mg Vitamin C Capsules" in 50, 100, and 500 capsule bottles. To implement this model:
  4.

    1. Create a product for the product type, in this case, the Vitamin C Capsules, and create a separate product for each of the different sizes that you are going to sell. Since the product type description will be the only one to show, make sure that it describes all of the variations. You don't need to give the parent product a real price (though you must enter something), since the parent product is not actually for sale. All of the products for the different sizes need real prices.
    2.

    3. On the List of Products screen, select the parent product, such as the Vitamin C Capsules, then click on the Select Cross-Sell button.
    4.

    5. On the resulting Select Cross-Sell screen, search for all of the products that represent the different sizes.
    6.

    7. From the search results list, select the different size products; do not select the parent product.
    8.

    9. Either click the OK button, or click the Arrange Cross-Sell button to set the order for listing the cross-sell products.
    10.

Note:

This method allows you to sell variations on a product at different prices. The Ordering Options feature also allows you to sell variations on a single product, but not with different prices.
