Facebook Connect for ShopSite
Using Facebook Connect for customer registration and login requires that the merchant register as a Facebook developer. The majority of the code for the application is already embedded in ShopSite, but the merchant must provide an application to Facebook before Facebook Connect will work.
To become a Facebook developer:
- Log on to your company Facebook account
- Locate the Facebook Developer page on Facebook (https://developers.facebook.com/apps)
- Click "Register Now" button; you may need to re-enter your Facebook password
- Accept Facebook's Platform and Privacy Policies by clicking the toggle to "Yes" and click "Next"
- Confirm your developer status using one of Facebook's authentication services; enter the confirmation code and click "Register"
Now that you are a Facebook developer, you will need to create a Facebook application to work with your ShopSite store.
To create the application, from the Facebook developer website:
- Click the "Create a New App" button (it may be in a drop-down in the top menu bar)
- Provide the application's name in the "Display Name" field (the name will show up when customers choose to register using Facebook Login, so the name should be indicative of the merchant's store); optionally, supply a Namespace to differentiate your "Customer Registration app" from other merchants who might use a name.
- Select "Apps for Pages" using the Category drop-down list
- Click the "Create App" button
- Verify the Security Check
- Click "Settings" from the menu on the left
- Click "+Add Platform" and select "Website" from the options provided
- Open a new browser window and navigate to the ShopSite back office
- Within the back office, go to Preferences > Hosting Service and copy the Shopping Cart secure URL field (if you are using SSL) or the Shopping Cart CGIs URL field (if you are not using SSL) to both the Site URL and the Mobile Site URL fields within your Facebook app
- Copy the domain portion of the Shopping Cart URL (likely something.com or something.net) to the App Domains field within the Facebook app
- From within the Facebook app, copy the App ID field, the App Secret field (requires verifying Facebook credentials), and the recently provided Site URL to the appropriate fields on the Commerce Setup > Customer Registration > Configure Customer Registration page of the back office; also, set the radio button for Add Facebook Login to "On"
- Click the "Save" button in the back office and the "Save Changes" button within the Facebook app to finish.
