Media Manager

Upload File

Clicking the Upload File button takes you to a new screen where you will see a button marked Browse. Clicking that button will bring up a browser window where you can search on your computer's hard drive for the image you would like to upload. You can also upload any other type of file to your media library this way, for example, HTML documents, audio clips, Shockwave files, etc. Once you have selected the file you wish to send, you need to give the file the name you would like it to have in your directory. You can give it a long, descriptive name, but it can't have spaces in the name (use periods or underscores), and it must have the appropriate suffix (.gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .html, .wav). When you have named the file, select the Image Upload button. Your file will then be immediately added to your library.

Note: Though the ShopSite software will theoretically support all types of files (sound, Shockwave, Java, etc.) your server may have to be configured to support those files. If you upload anything but an image to your ShopSite store and it doesn't work, the server may not support it. Speak to your server's administrator.

Alternate Ways of Uploading Files

The image upload feature is convenient for uploading files one at a time, but FTPing is more convenient for large batches of files. The media manager page displays the path to your site's media directory. For more information on FTP, read how to FTP. If you FTP files to your media directory, you will need to set their attributes using the "reset image attributes" feature. (see below)

Delete Image, View Image

Select one or more images from those listed (control-click to select more than one). Then hit the Delete Image button to erase those images from your library, or the View Image button to view them exactly as they will appear in your store.

Edit Image Attributes

Here, advanced users can add an alternate image name (alt="...", default is the name of the image,) scale the image to a certain size by adjusting height and width tags or hspace and vspace, or assign it values necessary for advanced applications, such as hi-res / lo-res and image maps.

Reset Image Attributes

ShopSite stores data about images, like height and width of the image, but if you FTP those files to the media directory, or make changes to the image after the fact, then you will need to highlight the file or files in the list and hit the Reset Image Attributes button, which will recalculate that critical information. After doing a large batch FTP, you can highlight all your files and reset their attributes. It won't take long, and it won't hurt to do them all.
