An Internet service provider, or ISP, generally provides e-mail accounts, dial-up access to the Internet via PPP, access to newsgroups, and sometimes Web site hosting for individuals and businesses. Quality, cost, and breadth of services vary tremendously, so shopping around is important. To compare different ISPs available in your area, check the list.
