ShopSite Page Layout FAQs

Here is a list of questions and answers about page layout and formatting.

How do I change the way a page looks?

Use the fields on the Edit Page Layout screen to control how a page looks. Changing the page template will have the most dramatic effect. You can change the look of all your pages by selecting a new theme on the Preferences > Layout & Color Theme screen.

How do I change the font on all or part of a page?

The Edit Product Layout screen lets you set some values for font formatting for some product information. If you are familiar with HTML, you can use <font> tags in most text fields. In a custom template, you can control all aspects of the fonts used in your store’s pages.

How do I change the colors on my store pages?

You can set colors for page text, background, and links on the Edit Page Layout screen.

How do I use a picture for the page background?

The first step is to be sure that you have a good picture for the background. It should be light colored so that dark text will show up against it. It should also look good when tiled, because your customer’s browsers will tile the image (repeat it to fill in the whole window) if it’s not large enough.

Once you have a good background image, go to the Images section of ShopSite and upload it. Then go to the list of pages, select the name of the page that you want to apply the image to, and click Edit Page Layout. In the Background Image field, click the first button and select your image from the drop-down list. Click Save Changes and publish your store.

How do I link one page to another?

Go to the Pages section of ShopSite and select the name of the page that you want other pages to link to. Click Edit Page Content. Scroll down to the Link Info section and find the Link Location field. Check the boxes of the pages that you want to have links to the current page. Click Save Changes and repeat for other pages. Publish your store.

Will my store pages look different in different browsers?

Although there may be slight differences in how your store’s pages look in different browers, they will be essentially the same.

How do I get my products to display in two (or more) columns?

In Advanced Editing mode, select a page name from the List of Pages and click Edit Page Layout. Find the Columns field and choose the number of columns that you want used on this page. Note that this setting only affects products and page links -- other text on the page is not formatted in colunms. Be sure to Publish your store and look at the results, because most product listings are too wide for more than two columns on a page.

Do I have to use the pre-set layouts, or can I customize the page layout templates?

You can create a custom page template, but doing so is quite a bit more technical than other operations in ShopSite. Read the help for custom templates before deciding if you want to create your own.

Can I use different templates on different pages?

Yes, you can set each page in your store to use a different template, if you wish. It may not have the desired result, but ShopSite will let you do it.
