Remote Database Wizard Steps

The Remote Database Wizard guides you through the steps of configuring ShopSite to store sensitive order information in a PostgreSQL database on a remote server. This makes it possible for merchants who store credit card information to comply with PCI Security Guidelines requiring credit card information to be stored behind a firewall.

ShopSite only stores order information in the remote database. The other databases (products, pages, etc.) are not put in the remote database.

In order to use a remote database, ShopSite requires a PostgreSQL database server accepting port connections and using username/password authentication. PCI guidelines require the database be located behind a firewall on a separate server from your ShopSite store. PCI guidelines also require that the password for the database conform to PCI standards (at least seven alphaumeric characters in length, using both letters and numbers). Contact your system administrator or hosting provider to learn how to set up your remote PostgreSQL database server.

The PostgreSQL database must to be configured for Latin1 encoding.
